White County 911 is funded through 911 tax on cellular phone, home/business phones and County General:
911 celluar phone tax:
.50 cents per phone is designated for 911, it is broken down as follows
- 1% for provider cost for collection fee
- 1% for CMRS (Little Rock) administrative and accounting(they collect the money and distribute it
to each of the counties)
- 49% for equipment and other uses specified in legislation (updating 911 equipment)
- 49% to qualified PSAPs (each county) for answering, routing, and proper disposition of 911 calls.
This is divided by number of PSAP in that County - we have 2 (Searcy and White County), Bald Knob
and Beebe are not PSAP but we are able to transfer any 911 call to their department for dispatch.
White County 911 receives 12.5 cents. The amount we receive is based on population, not on number of calls or
number of phone registred in White County.
911 home/business phone tax:
White County 911 receives 5% of the base phone rate for home/business phones. The funding for home phones has seen a
steady decline as people opt for cell phones instead of home phones. This is an issue for 911 Centers all over the nation.
